WAIT – Best Coaching Tip Ever

by Barbra on June 23, 2011

One of the best coaching tips I ever received was this: Make a big sign that says “WAIT” and post it in your office where you can see it while coaching clients. WAIT is an acronym for “Why Am I Talking?” I don’t think I need to elaborate : )

Perfect Barbra! Just think how many masteries that covers!

Establishing & Maintaining Trust
Engaged Listening
Processing in the Present
Expressing
Inviting Possibility

In explainations of those masteries, the use of silence or speaking econically is listed as effective behaviors. It lets the client go deeper and come more naturally to their own ahas and solutions.

“economically” – Now if I can learn to apply my own version of WAIT to hitting enter before throughly proofreading! (what am I thinking?)
What’s a better acronym for Proofread Before Hitting Enter?!
