Great stuff. I also want to submit that the people around us have TRAINED us to be that way by responding when we finally get angry. And we have trained others to behave that way too by responding when they finally get angry too. It gets results.

I have found that the more I can be clear in my life, the less I respond to others just because they are angry - and now they don't get angry anymore, or if they do, they go off somewhere to cool down.

I make it a point to not respond (in the way he wants) to my child when he gets angry or frustrated - in fact, nothing moves forward with him until everyone is feeling good again.

Parenting has really taught me to be patient and has also helped me understand the complexities of setting boundaries. That doesn't mean I have it down perfect yet, but it is a work in progress. I agree with your point about consistency. Early on in my life in management I learned about the importance of getting buy in and it was a great lesson I was also able to apply to my life as a parent. I wrote an example of how I did that with my son in an article called Motivating them to listen

Thanks for the great post Judy!
